Painting series inspired by chrysanthemums and the idea of resilience and the cyclical nature of our lives and existence. This series explores our complicated relationship with the natural world through the symbolism of the chrysanthemum, as a reminder of how we might consider our connection to and impact on our surroundings. It is also a personal project for me, relating to my own story of perseverance in life circumstances, as well as the broader themes of the ephemerality of existence, the cyclical nature of our lives and world, and an appreciation of of the subtle beauty found in unexpected places.
This body of work was made while in residence at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai, China.
