The map paintings are part of an ongoing series exploring spatial relationships between maps, actual space, and perceptions of space. Through mark making and sculptural alterations, I investigate the language of maps to examine what it means to flatten, modify, and “own” land. I researched karst formations underneath the ground in South/Central Florida, exploring the effects of manipulating subterranean structures and the ensuing destructive tendencies to construct my own map language extracted from data imagery, scientific diagrams, memory, and imagination.
